Van Nuys High School Magnet Programs Overview

In 2020, Van Nuys High School was named to the “Top 20” National Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.

To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by a trained panel of readers. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.

Boasting over 100 years of academic excellence, Van Nuys High School offers three magnet programs providing students a comprehensive high school experience through a wide range of classes, clubs and activities. All three magnets are infused with a College Preparatory core curriculum of mathematics and sciences, regardless of study emphasis.

Consistently ranked as one of America's Best High Schools, we have one of the largest Advanced Placement programs in the state with consistently high exam pass rates in LAUSD. Since 1995, our SAT scores have remained amongst the highest in the district, according to US News and World Report. Van Nuys is a Silver Academic Achievement school. We are exceedingly proud that our graduates are regularly accepted into the most competitive universities in the nation. There are many opportunities for students to have a well-rounded educational experience, preparing them for future success. We offer ALL Van Nuys High School students, both Magnet and residential, access to the full curriculum and activities, including:
