Council

Council is a program that builds community, empathy and positive communication. Participants learn to listen and speak from the heart, along with gaining socio-emotional skills.

In its’ 8th year at Van Nuys High School, Council is practiced in the classroom as well as specialized pull-out groups to help students with issues ranging from positive communication to bullying and substance abuse.  Council circles are also practiced by faculty, staff and parents.

Council practice is integrated and in support of Restorative Justice in order to create a campus where students are heard and viewed holistically. These programs allow for the students’ socio-emotional needs to be met in conjunction with their academic goals.
