Spanish 2

Course Description

Spanish 2 builds on the foundational skills developed in Spanish 1 with a continued focus on real-world speaking and communication. Students expand their vocabulary, strengthen their listening and speaking skills, and begin to express themselves in more detailed ways about past events, future plans, and personal experiences. While grammar is introduced to support communication, the course prioritizes conversation, expression, and confidence in using Spanish naturally.

As a Performing Arts Magnet course, Spanish 2 emphasizes creativity and self-expression through activities like student-written skits, role-plays, character dialogues, music-based learning, and video projects. Students are encouraged to think like performers—using tone, emotion, and movement to bring the language to life while continuing to develop cultural understanding of Spanish-speaking communities.

By the end of Spanish 2, students will be able to hold longer conversations, ask and answer questions, describe events in different tenses, and understand a variety of spoken and written texts. The course aligns with the California World Language Standards and LAUSD’s Equity, Grading & Instruction (EGI) framework, supporting students at different learning levels through performance tasks, projects, and culturally responsive instruction.
